Portugal’s Residence Permit for Investment Activity, commonly called the Golden Visa, remains available. The important change is that direct and indirect real-estate investment no longer qualifies.
Current qualifying routes
AIMA lists qualifying routes including €500,000 for eligible non-real-estate investment funds, €500,000 for scientific research, €250,000 for arts or cultural heritage, creation of ten jobs, and qualifying €500,000 company-capital structures linked to employment.
Minimum stay
AIMA states a minimum stay of seven days during the first year and fourteen days during each subsequent two-year period. Renewal depends on maintaining the qualifying conditions.
Fund due diligence
A fund marketed as Portuguese is not automatically ARI-eligible. Its maturity, asset allocation, property exposure, regulation, fees and exit terms require legal and financial review before subscription.
